Secret of Activated Charcoal and Activated Carbon for Odor Elimination and Removal

Photo - charcoal1
Innofresh Activated Charcoal Products is a leading supplier of U.S. manufactured activated charcoal odor absorbers for the consumer and commercial markets.  Since 1992, we have provided superior activated charcoal odor absorbers for home, work, dorm, pet areas and automobiles and outdoor recreation from musty odors in cabinets and closets to power outage problems in refrigerators and freezers.   Our activated charcoal with VAC technology provides effective odor removal and elimination even from the toughest odor causing environments including outgassing, dead rodent odors, diaper pails, musty basements, college dorm rooms and office break rooms.

Here are some of the more frequently asked questions about Activated Charcoal:

Photo activated carbon 2What is Activated Charcoal?
Activated charcoal is a highly porous, natural material that attracts and removes organic chemicals and gas from the environment.  It is manufactured by burning various carbon materials, such as wood, coconut shells and other organic material in a specialized oxidation – oxygen free process that results in literally, millions of microscopic pores and cracks inside the carbon that provides an enormous amount of interior and exterior surface area in which odor molecules are attracted to and neutralized.

What is the difference between Activated Charcoal and Activated Carbon?
Actually, there is not any difference.  Both of these terms can be used interchangeably and are synonymous with each other.

What can Activated Charcoal remove?
Activated charcoal is used in many fields including water treatment and medical devices to eliminate various organic pollutants from the water and the air including some toxic chemicals including VOC’s such as benzene and some other oils.   At Innofresh, we use this amazing material to create superior carbon filters for elimination of household, pet and car odors including smoke, food, animal, musty and other unwanted odors.  For additional information about Innofresh Activated Charcoal, click on this link to our website page – What is Activated Charcoal?

Is there a difference between regular charcoal briquettes used for barbeque grills and activated charcoal for odor elimination?
The answer to this is a big “YES”.  And, even more importantly is the safety of not using ordinary barbeque charcoal for odor control.  Activated charcoal or activated carbon goes through an extensive process which significantly increases the microscopic pores that attract and eliminate odors.  To explain it further, not all activated charcoal is the same and this makes a difference in performance.  Our activated charcoal filters are made from high quality materials and undergo a porous binding process that eliminates black powder and small particles common to most activated charcoal.
Safety – Another important distinction is that, in addition to not being “pure” or oxidized as activated charcoal, charcoal briquettes generally have other chemicals added to them to make them combust better for use in grills.   So, keep your charcoal briquettes for grilling and use activated charcoal specifically made for odor elimination for a safer, more effective way to eliminate odors.
